The Visual Template Builder (Template Studio) is the primary environment for creating and managing WhatsApp message templates. It provides a pixel-accurate preview that mirrors exactly how messages will appear on iOS and Android devices.

The 3-Pane Layout

The builder is organized into three specialized panes to streamline the design workflow:

1. Structure Pane (Left)

Define the fundamental components of your template:
  • Header: Text, Image, Video, or Document.
  • Body: The main message text with variable support (e.g., {{1}}).
  • Footer: Optional small grey text.
  • Buttons: Quick Reply, Call-to-Action (URL/Phone), or Marketing Opt-out.

2. Editor Pane (Center)

The active workspace where you input content:
  • Variable Mapping: Assign test values to your {{n}} placeholders to see them rendered in real-time.
  • Formatting: Support for bold, italic, strikethrough, and monospace.
  • Media Upload: Direct upload to Meta’s servers with automatic resizing and compression.

3. Preview Pane (Right)

A real-time, pixel-accurate renderer:
  • Device Toggle: Switch between iOS and Android renderings.
  • Dynamic Scaling: See how your message wraps on different screen widths.
  • Interactive Buttons: Test URL links and button layouts.

Key Features

Pixel-Accurate Rendering

Unlike generic text previews, our renderer uses the exact font families, spacing, and bubble shapes used by the WhatsApp client. What you see in the Studio is what your customers see on their phones.

Media Management

  • Automatic Optimization: Images are automatically converted to optimized formats.
  • Compliance Checks: The builder warns you if media exceeds WhatsApp’s size limits (e.g., 5MB for images).

Template Categories

When creating a template, you must select a category required by Meta:
  • Marketing: Promotional offers, product announcements.
  • Utility: Order updates, account alerts.
  • Authentication: One-time passwords (OTP).

Validation and Submission

Before a template can be used in a campaign, it must be submitted to Meta for approval. The Visual Builder performs pre-submission checks to ensure compliance with Template Rules:
  • No floating variables (variables must be surrounded by text).
  • Correct button combinations.
  • Accurate character counts for headers and footers.
Once submitted, the template status will track from PENDING to APPROVED or REJECTED within the studio interface.
